June 22, 2012 Devils Draft Name With History: Matteau
The New Jersey Devils used their 2012 first round entry draft
pick (29th overall) to select (LW/C) Stefan Matteau.
Stefan is the son of Stephane - yes, the Matteau with a once
horrible connotation for Devils fans (1994). The Devils team history
since that terrible time is something Rangers fans could only wish for.
However, there are sure to be some fans still bitter.
Remember: "THEY SCORE! HENRIQUE!! IT'S OVER!!!"; Stanley Cups
in 1995, 2000, and 2003; great playoff runs to make the Cup Final in 2001 and
2012 (when they crushed the Rangers in the Eastern Conference Finals to
advance).
The negative memory of the Matteau name is long gone. Some
Rangers fans are delusional, but Stefan will bring only positive feelings for
his last name to Devils fans.
