March 31, 2012 Game 79: Devils & Brodeur Shutout Hurricanes 5-0
The New Jersey Devils skated to a 5-0 shutout victory over the
Hurricanes in Raleigh on Saturday, March 31, 2012. The win clinched a
playoff spot for New Jersey.
David Clarkson beat Brian Boucher on a power-play with just 22
seconds remaining in the first period. Clarkson's 30th goal of the
season was assisted on Patrik Elias and Ilya Kovalchuk.
Ilya Kovalchuk blasted the puck past Boucher at 1:44 of the
second period to give the Devils a 2-0 lead. Petr Sykora and Dainius
Zubrus assisted on Kovalchuk's 34th goal of the season.
A goal from Ryan Carter at 3:28 made it a three goal Devils lead.
Steve Bernier and Jacob Josefson assisted on Carter's fourth goal of the
season.
Petr Sykora scored on a set play, right off a faceoff, at 17:30
of the second period to make it 4-0 Devils. Sykora's 19th goal of the
season was assisted by Patrik Elias.
Zach Parise made his way onto the score-sheet with his first point
of the game just 1:15 into the third period. Parie's 31st goal of the
season was assisted by Ilya Kovalchuk and Travis Zajac.
