February 05, 2012 Game 52: Devils Smash Penguins 5-2
The New Jersey Devils were victorious 5-2 at home over the
Pittsburgh Penguins on Sunday, February 5, 2012.
Ilya Kovalchuk started the Devils scoring with his 22nd goal of
the year just 2:21 into the first period. The goal that beat Marc-Andre
Fleury was assisted by Patrik Elias and Zach Parise.
Anton Volchenkov scored his first goal of the season at 9:33 to
make it 2-0. Ilya Kovalchuk and Alexei Ponikarovsky assisted on the
goal.
A short-handed goal from Dainius Zubrus at 2:28 of the second
period made it 3-0. The goal that send Fleury to the bench was assisted
by Ilya Kovalchuk.
Matt Niskanen scored a power-play goal that beat Martin Brodeur
just 34 seconds after Zubrus' goal to get Pittsburgh on the board.
Zach Parise made it 4-1 with a goal that beat Brent Johnson at
11:22. Steve Bernier and Andy Greene assisted on Parise's 20th goal of
the season.
Evgeni Malkin scored a power-play goal at 11:43 of the third
period to cut the Devils lead to two goals.
David Clarkson scored an empty-net goal with an assist from
Martin Brodeur at 19:13 to make it 5-2.
