January 06, 2012 Game 40: Patrik Elias & Devils Beat Panthers 5-2
The New Jersey Devils defeated the Florida Panthers 5-2 at the
Prudential Center on Friday, January 6, 2012.
The game was NHL game number 1000 (all with New Jersey) for
Patrik Elias.
Adam Henrique got the scoring started with a goal that beat Jacob
Markstrom at 3:53 of the first period. Zach Parise was credited with the
only assist on Henrique's 11th goal of the season.
Mikael Samuelsson tied the game with a goal that beat Johan
Hedberg at 7:33 of the first.
Patrik Elias scored just 36 seconds into the second period to
make it 2-1 New Jersey. Elias' 14th goal of the season was assisted by
Henrik Tallinder and Mark Fayne.
Krystofer Barch tied the game with a goal just 2:10 later.
Ilya Kovalchuk broke the tie with his 13th goal of the season, at
11:40 of the third period. Patrik Elias and Matt Taormina assisted on
the goal.
Kovalchuk added an empty-net short-handed goal at the 19:00 mark
to give New Jersey a two goal lead. Bryce Salvador and Adam Henrique
assisted on the goal.
Zach Parise made it a 5-2 Devils win with an empty-net goal at
19:20. Parise's 14th goal of the season was assisted by Patrik Elias and
Dainius Zubrus.
