The New Jersey Devils skated to a 5-1 victory over the New York
Islanders at the Prudential Center on Thursday, March 8, 2012. The teams
will meet for the third time this week on Saturday on Long Island.
Ilya Kovalchuk beat Evgeni Nabokov at 8:07 of the first period
to give New Jersey a 1-0 lead. Kovalchuk's 27th goal of the season was
assisted by Zach Parise and Adam Henrique.
3:33 into the second, Kovalchuk added a power-play goal to
increase the Devils lead. Marek Zidlicky and Patrik Elias assisted on
the goal.
Andrew MacDonald beat Martin Brodeur at 16:21 to get the Isles
on the board.
Patrik Elias scored his 23rd goal of the season at 7:05 of the
third period to make it 3-1 Devils. Ryan Carter and Adam Larsson
assisted on the goal.
Ilya Kovalchuk completed the hat trick at 8:09 of the third
period. Kovalchuk's 29th goal of the season was assisted by Zach Parise
and Adam Henrique.
David Clarkson added a goal at 15:59 to make it 5-1 New Jersey.
Marek Zidlicky and Jacob Josefson assisted on Clarkson's 27th goal of
the season.
