February 03, 2011 Game 51: Devils Hang On To Defeat Rangers 3-2
The New Jersey Devils defeated the Rangers 3-2 in New York
on Thursday, February 3, 2011.
Ilya Kovalchuk beat Henrik Lundqvist just 1:04 into the first
period to give the Devils an early 1-0 lead. Dainius Zubrus was credited
with the only assist on Kovalchuk's 15th goal of the season.
The Rangers outshot the Devils 7-5 in the first period, but the
Devils led 1-0 on the scoreboard after 20 minutes of play.
Dainius Zubrus scored at 8:01 of the second period to give the
Devils a 2 goal lead. Zubrus' ninth goal of the season was assisted by
Henrik Tallinder.
Lunqvist was pulled from New York's net after Brian Rolston beat
him at 15:04 to make it a 3-0 Devils lead. Patrik Elias was credited
with the only assist on Rolston's seventh goal of the season.
Ryan Callahan beat Martin Brodeur at 16:25 to get the Rangers on
the board.
The Devils outshot the Rangers 11-5 in the second period, which
ended with New Jersey leading 3-1.
Vinny Prospal scored a 5 on 3 goal at 2:21 of the third period
to get the Devils back within a single goal.
The Rangers outshot the Devils 15-2 in the third period and 27-18
in the game.
