January 01, 2011 Game 38: Devils Lose 3-6 to Hurricanes
The New Jersey Devils lost 3-6 in North Carolina to the Hurricanes
on Saturday, January 1, 2011.
Goals from Tuomo Ruutu (power-play) at 1:48, Jeff Skinner at
4:28, and Sergei Samsonov (power-play) at 8:00 led Jacques Lemaire to send
Johan Hedberg to the Devils net to relieve Martin Brodeur.
Rod Pelley beat Cam Wad at 16:52 of the first period to cut the
Hurricanes lead to 3 goals. Matt Corrente and Anssi Salmela assisted on
Pelley's second goal of the season.
Travis Zajac scored just 49 seconds into the second period to cut
the Canes lead to 4-2. Zajac's sixth goal of the season was assisted by
Patrik Elias and Anton Volchenkov.
Samsonov scored his second goal of the game at 8:42 on a 5 on 3
power-play to give Carolina a 5-3 lead.
2:36 into the third period Patrik Elias scored his eighth goal of
the season. Matt Corrente was credited with the only assist on the goal
