Game 58: Devils Fall to Flyers 2-3

The New Jersey Devils blew a 2 goal lead, allowing the Flyers to score 3 unanswered goals in Philadelphia on Monday, February 8, 2010.

Zach Parise beat Michael Leighton on a power-play at 7:00 of the first period to give the Devils a 1-0 lead.   Patrik Elias and Andy Greene assisted on Parise's 26th goal of the season.

The Flyers outshot the Devils 12-7 in the first period, but the Devils led 1-0 after 20 minutes of play.

Anssi Salmela scored a short-handed goal 1:01 into the second period.   As he scored the goal, Jeff Carter threw a late hit on him with his shoulder and elbow, sending to the ice.   He lay rather motionless (though did move his legs briefly) for 5 minutes before being taken off the ice on a stretcher.   Travis Zajac and Bryce Salvador assisted on Salmela's second goal of the season.

James van Riemsdyk beat Martin Brodeur at 18:24 to get the Flyers on the board.   A goal from Jeff Carter at 19:36 tied the game.

The Flyers outshot the Devils 15-13 in the second period, which ended with the teams tied, 2-2.

Mike Richards scored a power-play goal at 12:02 of the third period to gave the Flyers their first lead of the game.
