The New Jersey Devils skated to a 3-2 victory at home over the
Atlanta Thashers on Monday, December 28, 2009.
Ilya Kovalchuk beat Martin Brodeur at 9:43 of the first period to
give the Thrashers a 1-0 lead.
Zach Parise snapped his goal drought by beating Johan Hedberg
just 1:06 after the Thrashers goal. Parise's 16th goal of the season was
assisted by Niclas Bergfors and Andy Greene.
Colin White gave the Devils their first lead of the game with his
second goal of the season at 16:34. Travis Zajac and Niclas Bergfors
assisted on the goal.
The Devils outshot the Thrashers 13-9 in the first period, which
ended with the Devils leading 2-1.
The Thrashers outshot the Devils 8-7 in the second period, though
neither team scored in the period.
Zach Parise gave the Devils a two goal lead with his second goal
of the game just 59 seconds into the third period. The power-play goal
was assisted by Patrik Elias and Jamie Langenbrunner.
Marty Reasoner scored for Atlanta at 7:28 of the third period to
cut the Devils lead to a single goal.
