The New Jersey Devils defeated the Tampa Bay Lightning 3-2 at the
Prudential Center on Friday, December 4, 2009.
The Lightning outshot the Devils 7-5 in the first period, which
ended with the game still scoreless.
Vincent Lecavalier beat Martin Brodeur at 1:26 of the second
period to give the Lightning a 1-0 lead.
The Lightning outshot the Devils 9-6 in the second period, which
ended with Tampa Bay leading 1-0.
Brian Rolston beat Antero Niittymaki at 1:15 of the third period
on a power-play to tie the game, 1-1. Rob Niedermayer assisted on
Rolston's ninth goal of the season.
Niclas Bergfors gave the Devils a 2-1 lead with a goal at 5:14.
Vladimir Zharkov was credited with the only assist on Bergfors' eighth
goal of the season. The assist was the first career NHL point for
Steve Downie tied the game with a power-play goal at
Jamie Langenbrunner won the game for New Jersey by tipping the
puck past Niittymaki with just 39 seconds remaining in regulation time.
