January 30, 2009 Game 50: Langenbrunner & Devils Beat Penguins: 4-3 Overtime
The New Jersey Devils defeated the Pittsburgh Penguins 4-3 in
overtime at the Prudential Center on Friday, January 30, 2009. Jamie
Langenbrunner scored the goals to force overtime & win the game, increasing
New Jersey's winning streak to 8 games.
The season series is tied, 2-2 - with their last meeting a 1-0
Penguins victory at the Prudential Center on December 26, 2008.
The Penguins took a two goal lead with goals from Maxime Talbot
and Sidney Crosbey that beat Scott Clemmensen 20 seconds apart - at 9:33 and
9:53 of the first period.
Bobby Holik got the Devils on the board with his third goal of
the season at 11:21. Brendan Shanahan and Mike Rupp assisted on the
goal.
The Devils outshot the Penguins 19-7 in the first period, which
ended with the Pens leading 2-1.
Neither team scored in the second period, in which New Jersey
outshot Pittsburgh 7-6.
Evgeni Malkin gave Pittsburgh a two goal lead again with a goal
at 8:35 of the third period.
Brendan Shanahan got the Devils back within a goal, burying the
puck at 11:59 on a power-play. Brian Gionta and Dainius Zubrus assisted
on Shanahan's third goal of the season.
Jamie Langenbrunner forced overtime with a goal with just 31
seconds remaining in regulation time. Zach Parise and Travis Zajac
assisted on Langenbruner's 13th of the season.
At the 4:00 mark of the overtime, Jamie Langenbrunner beat
Marc-Andre Fluery to win the game for New Jersey. Travis Zajac and Andy
Greene assisted on the goal.
