January 04, 2009Game 38: Devils Beat Senators 4-3 Overtime
The New Jersey Devils defeated the Ottawa Senators 4-3 in
overtime at the Prudential Center on Sunday, January 4, 2009.
Nick Foligno beat Scott Clemmensen, who started his 10th straight
game, at 2:10 of the first period to give the struggling Senators an early 1-0
Dainius Zubrus slapped home a rebound past Alex Auld at 19:19 to
tie the game. Zubrus' ninth goal of the season was assisted by Brian
Gionta and Patrik Elias.
The Devils outshot the Senators 9-7 in the first period, which
ended with the teams tied, 1-1.
Brendan Bell scored the Senators second power-play goal of the
game, giving Ottawa a 2-1 lead.
Zubrus scored his second goal of the game at 11:15. Patrik
Elias and Brian Gionta assisted on the goal.
The second period ended with the teams tied, 2-2. The
Devils outshot the Senators 14-10 in the period.
Chris Kelly scored for the Senators at 7:14 of the third period,
to give Ottawa their third lead of the game.
Jamie Langenbrunner capitalized on a Devils power-play with a
goal at 16:20. Johnny Oduya assisted on Langenbrunner's seventh goal of
Regulation time ended with the teams once again tied, this time
3-3. The Devils outshot the Senators 8-3 in the third period.
Brian Rolston won the game for New Jersey with a blast that beat
Auld at 1:43 on a power-play. Rolston's sixth goal of the season was
