December 04, 2008 Game 23: Elias is Clutch! Devils Beat Flyers: 3-2 Overtime
The New Jersey Devils defeated the Flyers 3-2 in overtime in
Philadelphia on Thursday, December 4, 2008.
The shots were even, 5-5 in the scoreless first period.
Kimmo Timonen beat Scott Clemmensen at 6:48 of the second period
on a power-play to give the Flyers a 1-0 lead.
Zach Parise tied the game with a goal that beat Martin Biron at
17:17. Parise's 14th goal of the season was assisted by Jamie
Langenbrunner and Travis Zajac.
Scottie Upshall scored a power-play goal at 15:32 of the third
period.
Patrik Elias tied the game with just 90 seconds remaining in
regulation time to force overtime. Brian Gionta was credited with the
only assist on Elias' 9th goal of the season.
The Flyers outshot the Devils 11-8 in the third period.
Elias won the game for New Jersey with his second goal of the
game at the 2:48 mark of the overtime period. Brian Gionta assisted on
the goal.
The overtime goal for Patrik Elias was the 15th of his career -
which ties the NHL record with Jaromir Jagr and Mats Sundin.
