April 16, 2008R1 G4: Rangers Beat Devils 5-3, Now a Deep Hole
The New Jersey Devils were defeated by the New York Rangers, 3-5
at Madison Square Garden on Wednesday, April 16, 2008.
Ex-Devil Scott Gomez put the puck past Martin Brodeur on a
power-play at 12:37 of the first period to give the Rangers a 1-0 lead.
The first period ended with the Rangers leading the Devils 1-0.
The Rangers outshot the Devils 12-6 in the period.
The game was tied by Patrik Elias when he beat Henrik Lundqvist
just 31 seconds into the second period. Jamie Langenbrunner and Zach
Parise assisted on Elias' first of the playoffs.
Martin Straka took back the lead for New York with a goal at
Patrik Elias tied the game with a power-play goal at 6:58.
Elias' second goal of the game was assisted by Johnny Oduya and Jamie
Chris Drury gave the Rangers the lead, with a goal that beat
Brodeur at 12:39.
The Rangers led 3-2 at the end of the second period, in which the
Rangers outshot the Devils 12-11.
Mike Mottau tied the game yet again with a goal at 4:37 of the
third period. John Madden and Zach Parise assisted on Mottau's first
goal of the season.
Marc Stahl gave the Rangers their fourth lead of the game with a
goal at 16:47. Scott Gomez was credited with an empty net goal with 13
seconds in regulation time, when John Madden won a faceoff straight back into
his own net.
