January 22, 2008Game 48: Devils Power-Play Slaughters Flyers, 7-3 Win
The New Jersey Devils crushed the Flyers 7-4 in Philadelphia on
Tuesday, January 22, 2008. The Devils now lead the season series 5-1,
winning their last 5 meetings.
Daniel Briere beat Martin Brodeur on a power-play just 2:53 into
the first period to give the Flyers an early 1-0 lead.
Johnny Oduya tied the game with a power-play goal that beat
Antero Niittymaki at 6:10. Paul Martin and Travis Zajac assisted on
Oduya's second goal of the season.
The Flyers re-gained their one goal lead when Mike Knuble beat
Brodeur at 7:45.
Jamie Langenbrunner tied the game again, with a power-play goal
at 14:19. Paul Martin and Johnny Oduya assisted on Langenbrunner's
seventh goal of the season.
Dainius Zubrus scored the Devils third power-play goal of the
game at 17:44 to give the Devils their first lead of the game. Patrik
Elias and Brian Gionta assisted on Zubrus' eighth goal of the season.
The Flyers outshot the Devils 12-10 in the first period, which
ended with the Devils leading 3-2.
Power-play goal number four for the Devils came from Patrik Elias
at 10:01 of the second period. Elias' 11th goal of the season was
assisted by Johnny Oduya who had a fantastic rush up the ice to setup
The Devils fifth goal of the game, which also came on a
power-play, was scored by Zach Parise. Parise's 17th goal of the season
was assisted by Johnny Oduya and Travis Zajac.
Martin Biron replaced Niittymaki in the Flyers net after Parise's
Jeff Carter got the Flyers back into the game with a power-play
goal with just 8 seconds remaining in the second period.
The second period ended with the Devils leading the Flyers,
5-3. The Devils outshot the Flyers 15-6 in the period.
Zach Parise scored his second goal of the game just 32 seconds
into the third period. Travis Zajac and Jamie Langenbrunner assisted on
Patrik Elias, not to be outdone, scored his second goal of the
