January 20, 2007 Game 48: Devils Beat Flyers: 4-3 (Shootout)
The New Jersey Devils beat the Philadelphia Flyers 4-3 at home in
a shootout on Saturday, January 20, 2007.
Ryan Potulny beat Martin Brodeur with a weak shot at 2:25 of the
first period to give the Flyers an early 1-0 lead.
Scott Gomez tied the game with a blast that beat Antero
Niittymaki at 15:25 on a power-play. Gomez's ninth goal of the season
was assisted by Brian Rafalski and Patrik Elias.
The Devils outshot the Flyers 11-6 in the first period, which
ended with the scored tied, 1-1.
There was no scoring in the second period, in which the Devils
outshot the Flyers 12-6.
Kyle Calder beat Brodeur just 1:58 into the third period to give
the Flyers a 2-1 lead.
Jamie Langenbrunner beat Niittymaki at 7:58 to tie the game,
2-2. Andy Greene and Zach Parise assisted on Langenbrunner's 16th goal
of the season.
Simon Gagne beat Brodeur on a power-play at 13:02 of the third
period to give the Flyers a 3-2 lead.
Brian Gionta tied the game with a goal with just 21 seconds
remaining in regulation time to force overtime. Paul Martin and Patrik
Elias assisted on Gionta's 21st goal of the season.
The Devils outshot the Flyers 13-9 in the third period.
