The New Jersey Devils returned home from a 5 game road trip to
defeat the Pittsburgh Penguins 5-2 on Friday, December 1, 2006.
Erik Christensen beat Martin Brodeur just 1:14 into the first
period to give Pittsburgh an early 1-0 lead.
Jamie Langenbrunner scored on a power-play, beating Marc-Andre
Fleury at 3:36 to tie the game, 1-1. Langenbrunner's ninth goal of the
season was assisted by Brian Rafalski.
Patrik Elias gave the Devils a 2-1 lead with an even strength
goal at 11:59. Travis Zajac and John Oduya assisted on Elias' sixth goal
of the season.
The Penguins outshot the Devils 10-4 in the first period, but the
Devils led 2-1 on the scoreboard.
Evgeni Malkin scored just 42 seconds into the second period to
tie the game, 2-2.
Jay Pandolfo beat Fleury at 7:31 to give New Jersey a 3-2 lead.
Pandolfo's third goal of the season was assisted by Sergei Brylin
and Brian Rafalski.
Travis Zajac scored at 10:35 to increase the Devils lead to 2
goals. Zajac's sixth goal of the season was assisted by Patrik Elias and
The Devils outshot the Penguins 12-6 in the second period, which
ended with the Devils leading 4-2.
Brian Gionta capped the Devils scoring with a power-play goal at
6:22 of the third period. Patrik Elias and Scott Gomez assisted on
Gionta's 11th goal of the season.
