R1 G2: Devils BEAT Rangers: 4-1 Dog Trick!

    The New Jersey Devils beat the NY Rangers, 4-1 in New Jersey on Monday, April 24, 2006 to take a 2-0 series lead.   John Madden led the Devils scoring with a hat trick, including 2 short-handed goals.

    John Madden gave the Devils a 1-0 lead with a short-handed goal that beat Kevin Weekes at 7:47 of the first period.   Brian Rafalski and Jay Pandolfo assisted on Madden's first goal of the playoffs.

    Brian Gionta increased the Devils lead with a power-play goal at 14:13.   Gionta's first goal of the playoffs was assisted by Paul Martin and Jamie Langenbrunner.

    The Devils outshot the Rangers 8-5 and led 2-0 on the scoreboard at the end of the first period.

    John Madden was credited with his second short-handed goal of the game when Sandis Ozolinsh knocked the puck over the goal line with 6 seconds remaining in the second period.   Jay Pandolfo assisted on Madden's goal.

    The Rangers outshot the Devils 9-7 in the second period, which ended with the Devils leading, 3-0.

    Blair Betts got the Rangers on the board when he beat Martin Brodeur at 5:41 of the third period.

    John Madden completed a hat trick at 12:46 of the third period to give the Devils a 4-1 lead.   Grant Marshall and Jay Pandolfo assisted on Madden's third goal of the game.
