April 18, 2006 Game 82: Devs Rally, Beat Canadiens 4-3 & WIN Atlantic Division
The New Jersey Devils rallied, scoring 4 unanswered goals in
Montreal against the Canadiens to win 4-3 on Tuesday, April 18, 2006.
The win was their 11th straight to end the regular season and gave them the
Atlantic Division title.
Craig Rivet gave the Habs an early 1-0 lead when he beat Martin
Brodeur 5:23 into the first period. Francis Bouillon increased the
Canadiens lead with a goal at 11:14.
The Devils outshot the Canadiens 12-6 in the first period, but it
ended with Montreal leading 2-0.
Alex Kovalev beat Brodeur at 14:14 of the second period to give
Montreal a 3-0 lead.
Brian Gionta got the Devils on the board with a goal that beat
Cristobal Huet at 17:18 of the second period. Gionta's 47th goal of the
season was assisted by Scott Gomez and Brad Lukowich.
The second period ended with the Habs leading the Devils, 3-1.
The Canadiens outshot the Devils 18-13 in the period.
Brian Gionta got the Devils back within one goal of Montreal with
his second goal of the game at 11:29 of the third period. Gionta's goal
was assisted by Brian Rafalski and Scott Gomez.
Patrik Elias tied the game with a great goal at 14:55 of the
third period. Scott Gomez and Brian Gionta assisted on Elias' 16th goal
of the season.
Jamie Langenbrunner gave the Devils their fourth straight goal,
and their first lead of the game with just 2:23 remaining in the third period.
Langenbrunner's 19th goal of the season was assisted by Brad
Lukowich.
Brian Gionta set a new record for most goals scored by a
Devil in a season. The previous record holder was Pat Verbeek with 46
goals in the 1987-1988 season.
