March 16, 2006 Game 66: Devils Beat Penguins 2-1
The New Jersey Devils defeated the Penguins, 2-1 at home
on Thursday, March 16, 2006. The win snapped a 2 game losing streak in
which the Devils had given up 12 goals.
Jani Rita beat Martin Brodeur at 8:53 of the first period to give
the Penguins a 1-0 lead.
The Penguins outshot the Devils 7-6 in the first period, which
ended with Pittsburgh leading, 1-0.
John Madden beat Marc-Andre Fleury at 5:51 of the second period
to tie the game, 1-1. Patrik Elias and Brian Gionta assisted on Madden's
12th goal of the season.
Brian Gionta gave the Devils their first lead in a few games with
a goal at 17:25. Gionta's 36th goal of the season was unassisted.
The second period ended with the Devils leading the Penguins,
2-1. The Devils outshot Pittsburgh 8-3 in the period.
There was no scoring in the third period.
