Game 49: Devils Streak Ends With 3-1 Loss to Rangers at MSG

    The New Jersey Devils lost 3-1 to the Rangers at Madison Square Garden on Sunday, January 22, 2006.

    Darius Kasparaitis crushed Grant Marshall illegally with a elbow at 5:51 of the first period.   Kasparaitis was assessed a major penalty and a game misconduct.   Marshall left to be examined for a possible concussion.   The Devils were unable to score on the 5 minute power-play.

    Petr Prucha beat Martin Brodeur on a power-play at 12:37 of the first period to give the Rangers a 1-0 lead.

    The first period ended with the Rangers leading the Devils, 1-0.   The Rangers outshot the Devils 10-8 in the period.

    Michael Nylander increased the Rangers lead to 2 goals when he beat Brodeur at 15:06 of the second period.

    The second period ended with the Rangers leading the Devils, 2-0.   The Devils outshot the Rangers 15-14 in the period.

    Scott Gomez beat Henrik Lunqvist with a great shot at 6:36 of the third period to get the Devils on the board.   Patrik Elias and Tommy Albelin assisted on Gomez's 18th goal of the season.

    Dominic Moore slapped in an empty net goal with just 11 seconds remaining to seal the Rangers win.
