January 15, 2006 Game 45: Devils Defeat Blackhawks 3-2 Shootout
The New Jersey Devils defeated the Blackhawks, with a 3-2
shootout victory in Chicago on Sunday, January 15, 2006. The win
extends the Devils winning streak to 6 games.
Brian Gionta was credited with a goal at 4:34 of the first period
when Blackhawks netminder, Adam Munro accidentally swept the puck over the goal
line. Scott Gomez and Jamie Langenbrunner assisted on Gionta's 26th goal
of the season.
Tyler Arnason ripped the puck over Martin Brodeur and into the
net to tie the game, 1-1 at 8:26 of the period.
The first period ended with the game tied, 1-1. The Hawks
outshot the Devils 13-9 in the period.
Radim Vrbata beat Martin Brodeur at 4:59 of the second period
to give Chicago a 2-1 lead.
Colin White tied the game with a power-play goal at 7:18.
Sergei Brylin and Grant Marshall assisted on White's second goal of the
season.
The Blackhawks outshot the Devils 9-8 in the second period, which
ended with the game tied, 2-2.
There was no scoring in the third period or in the overtime
period, so the game went to a shootout.
Patrik Elias & Viktor Kozlov scored shootout goals, while Martin
Brodeur stopped 3 of 4 Blackhawk shooters to win the game.
