March 26, 2006 Game 71: Devils Fall To Leafs 4-3
The New Jersey Devils lost 4-3 at home to the Toronto Maple Leafs
on Sunday, March 26, 2006.
Chad Kilger beat Martin Brodeur at 8:34 of the first period to
give Toronto a 1-0 lead.
Erik Rasmussen beat Jean-Sebastien Aubin at 17:42 on a power-play
to tie the game, 1-1. Zach Parise and Sergei Brylin assisted on
Rasmussen's fifth goal of the season.
Kyle Wellwood beat Brodeur at 18:36 to regain the lead for the
Leafs.
The first period ended with Toronto leading the Devils, 2-1.
The Leafs outshot the Devils 17-10 in the period.
Mats Sundin added a third goal for the Leafs at 15:53 of the
second period to give Toronto a 3-1.
The second period ended with the Leafs leading, 3-1. The
Devils outshot the Leafs 11-7 in the period.
Scott Gomez got the Devils back within 1 goal of the Leafs with a
goal 2:24 into the third period. Brian Gionta and Martin Brodeur
assisted on Gomez's 26th goal of the season.
Mathew Stajan put the Leafs up by two goals with a goal at 11:48
of the third period.
Patrik Elias beat Aubin with a great deflection of a shot from
Scott Gomez on a 5 on 3 power-play to cut the Leafs lead to 1 goal.
Brian Rafalski also assisted on Elias' ninth goal of the season.
