December 06, 2005 Game 26: Red Wings Beat Devils 5-2
The New Jersey Devils lost 5-2 to the Red Wings in Detroit
on Tuesday, December 6, 2005.
Viktor Kozlov had a great backhand shot that beat Chris Osgood at
4:04 of the first period to give the Devils an early 1-0 lead. Sean
Brown and Brian Gionta assisted on Kozlov's eighth goal of the season.
Brendan Shanahan beat Scott Clemmensen at the 13:00 mark of the
first period to tie the game, 1-1.
The first period ended with the game tied, 1-1. The Red
Wings outshot the Devils 17-4 in the period.
Zach Parise took a juicy rebound and put it past Osgood at 8:34
of the second period to give New Jersey a 2-1 lead. Parise's fourth goal
of the season was assisted by Vladimir Malakhov and Sergei Brylin.
Ex-Devil Shanahan scored his second goal of the game at 11:57
on the power-play to tie the game again.
Tomas Holmstrom gave Detroit their first lead of the game beating
Clemmensen at 16:42. Jason Williams made it a 2 goal Red Wings lead just
1:39 later.
The Red Wings outshot the Devils 17-13 in the second period, which
ended with Detroit leading, 4-2.
Steve Yzerman scored at 10:49 of the third period to make it a
5-2 Wings lead.
The game ended with the Red Wings defeating the Devils 5-2.
The shots were even, 10-10 in the third period, but the Wings outshot
the Devils 44-27 in the game.
