October 22, 2005Game 8: Devils Blow 3-1 lead, Fall 4-3 to Thrashers
The New Jersey Devils blew a third period 3-1 lead over the
Thrashers, losing 4-3 in Atlanta on Saturday, October 22, 2005.
John Madden beat Adam Berkhoel at 6:52 of the first period to
give the Devils an early 1-0 lead. Grant Marshall was credited with the
only assist on Madden's first goal of the season.
The first period ended with the shots even, 12-12 and with the
Devils leading the Thrashers by a score of 1-0.
Marian Hossa beat Martin Brodeur just 1:10 into the second period
to tie the game, 1-1.
The Devils outshot the Thrashers 11-9 in the second period, which
ended with the score tied, 1-1.
Sergei Brylin beat Berkhoel with a great shot, just 1:54 into the
third period to give the Devils a 2-1 lead. Brian Gionta and Sean Brown
assisted on Brylin's fourth goal of the season.
John Madden scored his second goal of the game from behind the
goal line at 7:30 to increase the Devils lead to 3-1. Erik Rassmussen
got the only assist on the goal.
Ronald Petrovicky beat Martin Brodeur just 27 seconds after
Madden's goal with what appeared to be a weak shot to get the Thrashers back
within one goal.
Marc Savard beat Brodeur on the power-play at 12:26 to tie the
game, 3-3. Just 40 seconds later, Petrovicky got his second goal of the
game to give Atlanta their first lead of the game.
The game ended with the Thrashers defeating the Devils, 4-3.
