October 07, 2005Game 2: Flyers Defeat Devils, 5-2 in Philadelphia
The New Jersey Devils were defeated 5-2 by the Flyers in
Philadelphia on Friday, October 7, 2005.
Jamie Langenbrunner deflected a shot from Paul Martin past
Antero Niittymaki on a power-play, just 3:07 into the game to give the Devils
an early 1-0 lead. Martin was credited with the only assist on
Langenbrunner's first goal of the season.
The Flyers outshot the Devils 10-9 in the first period - but the
Devils led where it mattered most, 1-0 on the scoreboard.
Alexander Mogilny took advantage of a Devils power-play at 4:21
of the second period to give the Devils a 2-0 lead. Mogilny's first goal
of the season was assisted by Paul Martin and Dan McGillis.
Simon Gagne put a rebound from a Peter Forsberg shot past Martin
Brodeur at 10:04 to get the Flyers on the board. With just 1:12
remaining in the period, Gagne scored again to tie the game, 2-2.
The second period came to a close with the score tied, 2-2.
The Flyers outshot the Devils 11-9 in the period.
Jon Sim beat Brodeur just 39 seconds into the third period to
give the Flyers their first lead in the game. At 6:09 Handzus scored to
increase the Flyers lead to 2 goals. Ex-Devil Turner Stevenson beat
Brodeur short-handed at 9:04 of the third to make it a 5-2 Flyers lead.
The game ended with the Flyers defeating the Devils, 5-2.
