Game 73: Devils Beat Penguins 6-1, Kozlov 4pt Night

    The New Jersey Devils beat Pittsburgh Penguins 6-1 on Wednesday, March 17, 2004.   Jeff Friesen and Viktor Kozlov each had 4 point nights.

    Jeff Friesen took the rebound from a Viktor Kozlov shot and beat Sebastien Caron at 1:59 to give the Devils an early 1-0 lead.   Sergei Brylin also assisted on Friesen's 16th goal of the season.

    Scott Niedermayer beat Caron just 1:21 after Friesen's goal to make it a 2-0 Devils lead.   John Madden and Jay Pandolfo assisted on Niedermayer's 11th goal of the season.

    Jeff Friesen got his second goal of the game at 17:04 to give the Devils a commanding 3-0 lead.   Sergei Brylin and Viktor Kozlov assisted on the goal.

    The first period ended with the Devils leading the Penguins, 3-0.   The Devils outshot the Penguins 18-4 in the period.

    John Madden slapped the puck past Caron to increase the Devils lead at 5:34 of the second period.   Madden's 11th goal of the season was assisted by Paul Martin and Jay Pandolfo.

    Paul Martin blasted the puck off a faceoff at 7:20 to make it a 5-0 Devils lead.   Jeff Friesen and Viktor Kozlov assisted on Martin's fifth goal of the season.

    Viktor Kozlov recorded his first goal as a Devil just 27 seconds later, beating Martin Brochu (who replaced Caron after Martin's goal), to increase the Devils lead to 6 goals.   Jeff Friesen and Sergei Brylin assisted on Kozlov's 12th goal of the season.

    The second period ended with the Devils leading the Pens, 6-0.   The Devils outshot the Penguins 10-4 in the period.

    Matt Hussey deflected a shot past Scott Clemmensen at 13:08 of the third period on the power-play to get the Penguins on the board.

    The game ended with the Devils beating the Penguins, 6-1.   The Devils outshot the Penguins 14-7 in the third period and 42-15 in the game.

    Viktor Kozlov's assists on Friesen's goals in the first period, were his first points as a Devil.

    Scott Clemmensen gave Martin Brodeur a rare night off.   Colin White (neck), Brian Rafalski (leg), Brian Gionta (face), Scott Stevens (concussion), Igor Larionov (wrist), and Erik Rasmussen (healthy) were all out of the lineup.

    The Devils win the season series 5-1.
