January 31, 2004 Game 51: Devils Defeat Blues 4-1 in St. Louis
The New Jersey Devils defeated the Blues, 4-1 in St. Louis on
Saturday, January 31, 2004.
Brian Gionta beat Reinhard Divis at 12:09 of the first period to
give the Devils a 1-0 lead. Jay Pandolfo and John Madden assisted on
Gionta's 10th goal of the season.
Keith Tkachuk beat Martin Brodeur with 2:46 remaining in the
first period to tie the game, 1-1.
The first period ended with the teams tied, 1-1. The Blues
outshot the Devils 16-5 in the period.
Sergei Brylin deflected the puck past Divis at 12:51 of the
second period to give the Devils a 2-1 lead. Jamie Langenbrunner and
Scott Niedermayer assisted on Brylin's 10th goal of the season.
Patrik Elias got a breakaway and used it well, beating Divis just
47 seconds after Brylin's goal to increase the Devils lead to 2 goals.
Elias' 19th goal of the season was assisted by Grant Marshall and Scott
Gomez.
The second period ended with the Devils leading the Blues, 3-1.
The Devils outshot the Blues, 9-6 in the period.
Brian Gionta slapped the puck into an empty net with 26 seconds
remaining to seal the win for the Devils. Colin White was credited with
the only assist on Gionta's second goal of the game.
The game ended with the Devils winning, 4-1. The Devils
outshot the Blues 11-9 in the third period but were outshot 31-25 in the
game.
The game was the only regular season meeting between the two
teams this season.
