February 25, 2004 Game 62: Devils Demolish Sabres, 8-2
The New Jersey Devils wrecking crew demolished the Buffalo
Sabres, 8-2 at home on Wednesday, February 25, 2004. Martin Brodeur
became the first goaltender in NHL history to record 9 consecutive 30-win
seasons. Patrik Elias, Brian Gionta, and Jay Pandolfo each scored 2
goals in the win.
Here are a few of my
pictures from the game.
Patrik Elias got the Devils on the board early, with a power-play
goal just 1:29 into the first period. Elias' 26th goal of the season was
assisted by Brian Rafalski and Scott Gomez.
The Devils relinquished their early lead just 33 seconds later,
when Derek Roy beat Martin Brodeur with a wrist shot.
Brian Gionta beat Mika Noronen at 16:13 to give the Devils a 2-1
lead. Gionta's 16th goal of the season was assisted by Paul Martin and
Patrik Elias.
Jay Pandolfo tipped the puck past Noronen at 18:04, short-handed
to increase the Devils lead. Pandolfo's 10th goal of the season (his
second short-handed) was assisted by John Madden and Turner Stevenson.
Exactly 1:00 after Pandolfo's goal, Maxim Afinogenov beat Brodeur
on the power-play with a slap shot to cut the Devils lead to 1 goal.
The first period ended with the Devils leading the Sabres, 3-2.
