December 02, 2003 Game 23: Devils Drop to Coyotes, 3-1
The New Jersey Devils lost 3-1 at home to the Phoenix Coyotes on
Tuesday, December 2, 2003.
There was no scoring in the penalty-filled first period (less
than half the period was played at even strength). The Devils ousthot
the Coyotes 14-8 in the first 20 minutes of the game.
Tyson Nash tipped the puck past Martin Brodeur 3:25 into the
second period to give Phoenix a 1-0 lead.
Jay Pandolfo tied the game at 3:02 of the second period by
beating Sean Burke with a nice deflection. Pandolfo's sixth goal of the
season was assisted by Tommy Albelin and John Madden.
The second period ended with the game tied, 1-1. The
Coyotes outshot the Devils 10-5 in the period.
With the teams skating 4 a side (each having a player in the box
for coincidental minor penalties), Phoenix scored twice. Chris Gratton
beat Brodeur at 11:44 and David Tanabe did the same at 12:50 of the third
period.
The game ended with the Coyotes defeating the Devils, 3-1.
The Devils outshot the Coyotes 9-5 in the second period and 28-23 in the
game.
