The New Jersey Devils defeated the Islanders in New York, 4-0, on
Tuesday, October 28, 2003. The shutout was Martin Brodeur's first of the
season, and the 65th of his career.
Jeff Friesen beat Rick DiPietro at 17:27 of the first period to
give the Devils a 1-0 lead. Colin White assisted on Friesen's second
goal of the season.
The first period ended with the Devils leading the Islanders,
1-0. The Islanders outshot the Devils 7-6 in the period.
Jay Pandolfo tapped the puck past DiPietro just 1:30 into the
second period to give the Devils a 2-0 lead. John Madden and Jamie
Langenbrunner assisted on Pandolfo's second goal of the season.
The second period ended with the Devils leading the Islanders,
2-0. The Devils outshot the Islanders 15-9 in the period.
Brian Gionta slapped the puck past DiPietro at 7:29 of the third
period to increase the Devils lead to 3 goals. Patrik Elias assisted on
Gionta's second goal of the season.
John Madden recorded his first goal of the season just 16 seconds
after Gionta's goal to give the Devils a 4-0 lead. Jay Pandolfo and
Brian Rafalski assisted on Madden's goal.
The game ended with the Devils winning, 4-0. The Islanders
outshot the Devils 6-9 in the third period but were outshot 27-25 in the
Langenbrunner's assist on Pandolfo's goal in the second period
was his 300th career NHL point.
