The New Jersey Devils beat the Philadelphia Flyers, 5-1 in New
Jersey on Thursday, Jacnuary 30, 2003.
Scott Niedermayer gave the Devils a 1-0 lead with a great
backhand shot, beating Cechmanek at 4:54 of the first period. Patrik
Elias and Scott Gomez assisted on Niedermayer's 9th goal of the season.
Mike Rupp deflected a shot from Ken Daneyko past Cechmanek at
6:50 to give the Devils a 2-0 lead. Ken Daneyko got the only assist on
Mike Rupp's 4th goal of the season.
Ken Daneyko made it a 3-0 lead with 3:39 remaining in the first
period. Scott Gomez assisted on Daneyko's 2nd goal of the season.
The first period ended with the Devils dominating the Flyers,
3-0. The Devils outshot the Flyers, 11-5 in the period.
Robert Esche took over the netminding duties for the Flyers at
the start of the second peiod.
There was no scoring in the second period. The Flyers had
the first power-play of the game in the last 3 minutes of the peiod, but the
Devils were able to successfully kill it off. The Flyers outshot the
Devils 10-6 in the period.
Jay Pandolfo beat Esche just 10 seconds into the third period to
make it a 4-0 lead for the Devils. Patrik Elias and Brian Rafalski
assisted on Pandolfo's 5th goal of the season.
Scott Gomez slapped a rebound past Esche at 8:31 of the third
period to give the Devils a 5-0 lead. Scott Stevens and Jim McKenzie
assisted on Gomez's 8th goal of the season.
Eric Chouinard wrecked Martin Brodeur's shutout streak with just
1:58 remaining in the game.
The game ended with the Devils defeating the Devils, 5-1.
