November 15, 2003 Game 16: Devils Dominate Rangers, 5-0. Marty #1
The New Jersey Devils completely dominated the New York Rangers,
destroying them, 5-0, at home on Saturday, November 15, 2003. The
shutout was the 67th of Martin Brodeur's NHL career, placing him at number one
on the list of active netminders.
Jay Pandolfo gave the Devils an early 1-0 lead over the crosstown
rivals, beating Mike Dunham just 1:10 into the first period. Pandolfo's
fourth goal of the season was assisted by Jamie Langenbrunner and Scott
Stevens.
The first period ended with the Devils leading 1-0 on the
scoreboard, and 12-6 in shots on goal.
Jamie Langenbrunner recorded his second point of the game, by
putting the puck past Dunham 10:29 into the second period to give the Devils a
2-0 lead. Scott Niedermayer and John Madden assisted on Langenbrunner's
seventh goal of the season.
Brian Rafalski scored at 17:22 of the second to increase the
Devils lead to 3 goals. Scott Gomez and Jeff Friesen assisted on
Rafalski's second goal of the season.
Christian Berglund beat Dunham just 1:32 later to give the Devils
a commanding lead over the Rangers. Patrik Elias and Scott Niedermayer
assisted on Berglund's second goal of the season.
The second period came to a close with the Devils leading the
Rangers, 4-0. The Devils outshot the Rangers, 12-4 in the period.
