June 05, 2003 Round 4 Game 5: Devils Obliterate Ducks: 6-3
The New Jersey Devils defeated the Anaheim Mighty Ducks, 6-3 at
home on Thursday, June 5, 2003.
Just 42 seconds into the first period, Adam Oates one a faceoff
in the Devils defensive zone, Petr Sykora took the puck and blasted it past
Martin Brodeur to give the Ducks an early 1-0 lead.
Turner Stevenson, making his first appearance in the series made
his presence known early. He made some room in front of Giguere for
Pascal Rheaume to deflect the puck into the Ducks net at 3:35 of the first.
Sergei Brylin also assisted on Rheaume's first goal of the
playoffs.
Patrik Elias took a beautiful pass from Brian Rafalski and
deflected it past Giguere at 7:45 of the first period on the power-play.
Elias' fifth goal of the playoffs was also assisted by Scott Gomez
The Ducks tied the game at Steve Rucchin put the puck past
Brodeur at 12:50 of the first period.
The first period ended with the game tied, 2-2. The Ducks
outshot the Devils, 12-11 in the period.
Brian Gionta was credited with his first goal of the playoffs at
3:12 of the second period to give the Devils a 3-2 lead. Leclerc
actually tipped the goal past his own goaltender. Pandolfo was credited
with an assist on the goal.
Jay Pandolfo deflected the puck past Giguere at 9:02 of the
second period to give the Devils a 4-3 lead. Brian Gionta and Scott
Stevens assisted on Pandolfo's 5th goal of the season.
The second period ended with the Devils leading the Ducks, 4-3.
The Devils outshot the Ducks, 13-7 in the period.
Jamie Langenbrunner lifted the puck over Giguere at 5:39 of the
third period to give the Devils a 2 goal lead. Langenbrunner's NHL
leading, tenth goal of the playoffs was assisted by Mike Rupp and Scott
Niedermayer.
Jamie Langenbrunner recorded his second goal of the game at 12:52
to increase the Devils lead to 6-3. Brian Gionta assisted on
Langenbrunner's eleventh goal of the playoffs.
The game ended with the Devils defeating the Ducks, 6-3.
The Devils outshot the Ducks 13-4 in the third period and 37-23 in the
game.
