April 17, 2003 Round 1 Game 5: Devils Crush Bruins: 3-0, Move On
The New Jersey Devils defeated the Boston Bruins, 3-0 at home on
Thursday, April 17, 2003. The win eliminated the Bruins, and advanced
them to the Eastern Conference Semi-Finals. Their opponent for the
second round has yet to be determined.
John Madden gave the Devils a 1-0 lead with at power-play goal at
8:31 of the first period. Madden's 2nd goal of the playoffs was assisted
by Oleg Tverdovsky.
The first period ended with the Devils leading the Bruins, 1-0.
The shots were even, 11-11 in the period.
There was no scoring in the second period, but the Devils outshot
the Bruins, 11-7.
Jamie Langenbrunner gave the Devils a 2-0 lead at 7:41 of the
second period. Langenbrunner's 4th goal of the playoffs was assisted by
John Madden and Jay Pandolfo.
With just 58 seconds remaining in the third period, Langenbrunner
sealed the Devils win with an empty net goal. Langenbrunner's 2nd goal
of the night was assisted by Brian Rafalski and John Madden.
The game ended with the Devils winning 3-0. The Bruins
outshot the Devils 10-9 in the third period, but where outshot 31-28 in the
game.
