March 22, 2003 Game 74: Devils Beat Islanders: 4-2
The New Jersey Devils defeated the Islanders, 4-2, on Long Island
on Saturday, March 22, 2003.
The New Jersey Devils took an early 1-0 lead 3:18 into the first
period when Pascal Rheaume slapped the puck past Garth Snow. Jim
McKenzie and Jiri Bicek assisted on Rheaume's 7th goal of the season.
Oleg Kvasha beat Brodeur at 11:25 of the first, to tie the game,
1-1.
The first period ended with the game tied, 1-1. The Devils
outshot the Islanders, 8-6 in the period.
Jamie Langenbrunner beat Snow at 10:46 of the second period, on
the power-play. Langenbrunner's 21st goal of the season was assisted by
Joe Nieuwendyk and Jeff Friesen.
Joe Nieuwendyk gave the Devils a 3-1 lead at 15:17 of the second
period. Nieuwendyk's 15th of the season was assisted by Jeff Friesen and
Richard Smehlik.
The second period ended with the Devils leading the Islanders,
3-1. The Devils outhsot the Islanders, 16-6 in the period.
