March 18, 2003 Game 72: Devils Shutout Canadiens, 1-0
The New Jersey Devils shutout the Canadiens, 1-0 in Montreal on
Tuesday, March 18, 2003. Martin Brodeur recorded his 8th shutout of the
season and 63rd of his career.
Scott Gomez beat Jose Theodore, with a high shot under the
crossbar at 5:59 of the first period on the power-play to give the Devils a
1-0 lead. Patrik Elias and Grant Marshall assisted on Gomez's 12th goal
of the season.
The first period ended with the Devils leading the Canadiens,
1-0. The shots were even, 9-9, in the period.
Scott Gomez, interviewed during the first intermission, made sure
to get a dig in about the Metro channel. He said, "Is anyone watching
this? It's Metro".
The second period had no goals scored, the Devils outshot the
Habs, 10-3 in the period.
There was no scoring in the third period. The game ended
