February 04, 2003 Game 51: Devils Beat Sabres, 4-1
The New Jersey Devils defeated the Bufalo Sabres, 4-1 in New
Jersey on Tuesday, February 4, 2003.
Patrik Elias gave the Devils an early 1-0 lead just 1:55 into the
first period. Elias took a rebound off a Gomez shot and lifted it over
Sabres netminder Ryan Miller. Jiri Bicek also assisted on Elias's 15th
goal of the season.
The first period ended with the Devils leading Buffalo, 1-0.
The Devils outshot the Sabres, 11-5 and won 88% percent in the
period.
Joe Nieuwendyk made it 2-0 at 6:04 of the second period, jamming
the puck past Miller from behind the net. Jamie Langenbrunner got the
only assist on Nieuwendyk's 9th goal of the season.
Tommy Albelin scored shorthanded at 14:01 of the second period to
give the Devils a 3-0 lead. Albelin's 1st goal of the season was
assisted by Sergei Brylin and Patrik Elias.
Joe Nieuwendyk scored at 15:18 with a nice back-hand shot he
lifted over Miller. Nieuwendyk's 2nd goal of the game was assisted by
Jeff Friesen and Jamie Langenbrunner.
Curtis Brown wrecked Corey Schwab's shutout bid with 7 seconds
remaining in the second period, cutting the Devils lead to 3 goals.
