January 17, 2003 Injury & Illness Plague Devils
The New Jersey Devils, who in previous years had been fairly
lucky with regard to injury and illness, have been plagued recently. The
Devils got more bad news on Friday, January 17, 2003.
Patrik Elias was sidelined with a sore back and Oleg Tverdovsky
returned to New Jersey - falling ill again. Both were unexpectedly
unable to play in Friday's game in North Carolina. Since the Devils did
not have time to re-call another player from Albany, they were forced to play
without a full lineup.
Flu-like symptoms have kept several Devils out of games in recent
weeks, including Corey Schwab and Ken Daneyko.
Jay Pandolfo (concussion), Brian Gionta (leg), and Stephen Guolla
(back) also remain out of the lineup.
