November 23, 2002 Game 18: Devils Fall to Lightning, 3-1
The New Jersey Devils were defeated, 3-1 at home by the
Tampa Bay Lightning on Saturday, November 23, 2002.
The first period ended with the game scoreless. The
Devils outshot the Lightning, 9-2 in the period.
Sergei Brylin gave the Devils a 1-0 lead just 58 seconds into
the second period. Brylin's 6th goal of the season was assisted by
Joe Nieuwendyk and Turner Stevenson.
Andre Roy beat Corey Schwab at 10:10 of the second period to
tie the game, 1-1.
The second period ended with the game tied, 1-1. The
Devils outshot the Lightning 14-11 in the period.
Dave Andreychuk got his 600th career goal 33 seconds into the
third period on the power-play, to give the Bolts a 2-1 lead. 2:20
later Andreychuk got an even strength goal to give Tampa a 3-1 lead.
The game ended with the Lightning winning, 3-1. The
shots were 10-10 in the third period, but the Devils outshot the Lightning
33-23 in the game.
The Devils now lead the lifetime series 30-10-5-0, and are
18-4-2-0 at home. The season series is now tied, 1-1-0-0. The
teams will meet two more times in the regular season.
Corey Schwab made his first start of the season net for
the Devils. Nikolai Khabibulin started in goal for Tampa Bay.
Tommy Albelin (healthy) and Jamie Langenbrunner (pneumonia)
were scratches for the Devils. Jay Pandolfo and Stephen Guolla remain
on Injured Reserve.
It was the Devils "Lunch Bag" promotional day. All fans
age 13 and under in attendance received a Devils Lunch Bag.
