March 27, 2002Devils rally to defeat Penguins, 4-3
The New Jersey Devils rallied from a 3-1 deficit, scoring
three goals in the third period to defeat the Penguins 4-3 in Pittsburgh
on Wednesday, March 27, 2002.
Bobby Holik scored for the Devils at 3:45 of the first
period by beating the 'Moose' - Johan Hedberg. Holik's 22nd goal
of the season was assisted by Sergei Brylin and Scott Gomez.
Ex-Ranger Jeff Toms scored at 5:38 of the first period to
tie the game, 1-1.
The first period ended with the game tied, 1-1. The
Devils outshot the Penguins 13-8 in the period.
Devil-Killer Aleksey Morozov beat Brodeur at 2:18 of the
second period to give the Penguins a 2-1 lead.
The second period ended with the Penguins leading the Devils,
2-1. The Devils outshot the Penguins 11-5 in the period.
Randy Robitaille beat Brodeur at 1:24 of the third period
on the power-play to give the Penguins a 3-1 lead early in the period.
Stephane Richer got the Devils within one goal of the
Penguins at 4:11 of the third. Richer's 14th goal of the season
was assisted by Joe Nieuwendyk.
Bobby Holik got his second goal of the game at 14:03 of
the third period to tie the game, 3-3. Brian Rafalski assisted on
Holik's 23rd of the season.
Patrik Elias gave the Devils a 1 goal lead at 14:52 of
the third period. Elias's 25th goal of the season was assisted by
Joe Nieuwendyk and Jamie Langenbrunner.
The game ended with the Devils winning, 4-3. The
Devils outshot the Penguins 31-21 in the game.
Petr Sykora was still recovering from the effects of the Flu
and was not in the lineup.
