March 21, 2002 Devils Beat Predators 4-3
The New Jersey Devils defeated the Predators, 4-3 in
Nashville, on Thursday, March 21, 2002.
Sergei Brylin scored on the power-play for the Devils
at 9:32 of the first period. Scott Niedermayer and Scott Gomez
assisted on Brylin's 12th goal of the season.
Jamie Langenbrunner scored for the Devils at 18:41 of the
first period to give the Devils a 2-0 lead. Langenbrunner's 11th
goal of the season - his first as a Devil - was assisted by Joe
Nieuwendyk and Brian Rafalski.
The first period ended with the Devils leading the
Predators, 2-0. New Jersey outshot Nashville 14-7 in the period.
There was no scoring in the second period. The Devils
outshot the Predators 11-6 in the period.
Joe Nieuwendyk beat Mike Dunham just 26 seconds into the
third period. Nieuwendyk's 1st goal as a Devil - 24th on the season
was assisted by Jamie Langenbrunner and Scott Niedermayer.
Kimmo Timonen beat Martin Brodeur on the power-play at 6:33
of the third period to cut the Devils lead to 3-1.
Greg Johnson scored for Nashville at 11:53 to get the
Predators within one goal of the Devils.
Sergei Brylin beat Dunham at 14:34 to give the Devils a 4-2
lead. Brylin's 13th goal of the season and second goal of the night
was assisted by Scott Gomez.
Johnson answered by getting his second goal of the night at
14:58, just 24 seconds after the Brylin goal, to cut the Devils lead to
4-3.
The game ended with the Devils winning, 4-3. The
Predators outshot the Devils 14-10 in the third period, but were outshot
by the Devils 36-27 in the game.
The win was Brodeur's 7th consecutive 30 win season, making
him only the second goaltender in NHL history to achieve this feat.
Patrik Roy is only one goal away from tying this record as well.
