March 04, 2002 Avalanche Shutout Devils, 2-0
The New Jersey Devils began their four game western road
trip with a 2-0 loss to the Avalanche in Colorado on Monday, March 4,
2002.
The first period had no scoring. The Avs outshot the
Devils 8-7 in the period.
Greg de Vries got the first goal of the game at 14:30 of
the second period, giving the Avalanche a 1-0 lead.
The second period ended with the Avalanche leading the
Devils, 1-0. Colorado outshot New Jersey 10-8 in the period.
Joe Sakic beat Brodeur at 13:10 of the third period to give
the Avalanche a 2-0 lead.
There was a significant lack of good refereeing in the game,
especially late in the third period, which helped prevent the Devils from
coming back in the game.
The game ended with the Devils losing 2-0 to the Avalanche.
The Devils outshot the Avalanche 7-2 in the third period, and 23-20
in the game.
