January 29, 2002 Devils Beat Islanders 3-1
The New Jersey Devils defeated the New York Islanders 3-1
in New York on Tuesday, January 29, 2002.
Jason Arnott got the Devils on the board first, at 13:55
of the first period to give the Devils a 1-0 lead. Arnott's 16th
goal of the season was assisted by Petr Sykora and Patrik Elias.
Patrik Elias got his 20th goal of the season at 15:09 of
the first period to give the Devils a 2-0 lead. Elias's goal was
assisted by Petr Sykora and Martin Brodeur.
Just 13 seconds after the Elias goal, Kip Miller scored
for the Islanders to cut the Devils lead to 2-1. It appeared that
Marty would have been able to get the puck, but his glove was blocked by
the stick of Scott Niedermayer.
The first period ended with the Devils leading the Islanders
2-1. The Islanders outshot the Devils 14-11 in the period.
Bobby Holik gave the Devils their 2 goal lead back at 10:13
of the second period. Holik's 16th goal of the season was assisted
by Scott Gomez and Sergei Brylin.
The second period ended with the Devils leading the
Islanders 3-1. The Devils outshot the Islanders 7-2 in the period.
There was no scoring in the third period, the game ended
with the Devils winning 3-1. The Islanders outshot the Devils
4-3 in the third period; The shots were 21-21 in the game.
