Devils Beat Rangers 6-4
    The New Jersey Devils defeated the New York Rangers at home by a score of 6-4 on Thursday, January 17, 2002.
    Sergei Brylin got the Devils on the board first at 3:00 of the first period, on the power-play.   Brylin's 5th goal of the season was assistsed by Bobby Holik and Christian Berglund.
    Manny Malhotra tied the game by beating Brodeur at 4:48 of the first period.   Brian Rafalask passed the puck in front of Brodeur to Scott Gomez, but mis-handled the puck and it was taken by Malhotra and quickly put in the net.
    Petr Sykora blasted the puck over Mike Richter at 8:24 of the first to give the Devils a 2-1 lead.   Sykora's 14th goal of the season was assisted by Jason Arnott and Patrik Elias.
    Bruce Gardiner got his second goal of the season at 16:06 to give the Devils a 3-1 lead.   Bobby Holik and Sergei Brylin got assists on the goal.
    The first period ended with the Devils leading the Rangers, 3-1.   The Devils outshot the Rangers 13-9 in the period.
    Jay Pandolfo scored the first Devils shorthanded goal of season at 4:54 of the second period to give the Devils a 4-1 lead.   John Madden and Scott Stevens got assists on Pandolfo's 3rd goal of the season.
    Petr Nedved beat Brodeur on the power-play at 14:57 of the second period to cut the Devils lead to 4-2.
    The second period ended with the Devils leading the Rangers 4-2.   The shots were 6-6 in the period.
    Patrik Elias beat Richter at 1:41 of the third period to give the Devils a 5-2 lead.   Elias's 18th goal of the season was assisted by Petr Sykora and Brian Rafalski.
    Mathew Barnaby got the Rangers back within two goals at 5:34 of the third period by beating a screened Martin Brodeur.
    Sergei Brylin got his second goal of the game at 6:28 of the period to give the Devils a 6-3 lead.   Brylin's 6th goal of the season was assisted by Bobby Holik and Scott Niedermayer.
    The Rangers got a lucky bounce when Sandy McCarthy put the puck off of Colin White into the net past Brodeur.   The goal cut the Devils lead to 6-4.
    The game ended with the Devils winning 6-4.   New Jersey outshot the Rangers 11-10 in the third period and 30-25 in the game.
