April 23, 2002 Game 4: Devils Chase Irbe Again, Win 3-1, Series Tied
The New Jersey Devils defeated the Carolina Hurricanes, 3-1,
at home on Tuesday, April 23, 2002. The win ties the series at 2
games apiece.
Bobby Holik gave the Devils an early lead at 1:16 of the
first period, by beating Arturs Irbe with a nice shot. Holik's
3rd goal of the playoffs was assisted by Sergei Brylin.
Brian Gionta got his second goal of the playoffs at 17:31
of the first period. Gionta's goal was shorthanded and unassisted.
The first period ended with the Devils leading the Hurricanes,
2-0. The Devils outshot the Hurricanes, 8-5 in the period.
For the second game in a row, Arturs Irbe was removed from
