November 07, 2001 Devils Defeat Thrashers, 3-2
The New Jersey Devils defeated the Atlanta Thrashers at
home on Wednesday, November 7, 2001, by a score of 3-2.
Kallio broke out for the Thrashers at 2:24 of the first
period, to give them a 1-0 lead. At 4:46, Kallio got his second
goal of the game (and of the season), giving the Thrashers a 2-0 lead.
Sergei Brylin got his second goal of the season at 12:29
to cut the Thrashers lead in half. Bobby Holik and Andreas
Salomonsson got assists on the goal.
The first period ended with the Thrasher leading 2-1.
The Thrashers also outshot the Devils 10-2 in the period.
The Devils began the second period on the power-play,
because ex-Devil, Bob Corkum, was penalized at 19:59 of the first.
Bobby Holik took advantage of the power-play by scoring
at 0:47. Brian Rafalski and Martin Brodeur got assists on the
goal that tied the game, 2-2.
Bobby Holik's goal was the 5,000th goal of the Devils'
Franchise.
The second period ended with the game tied, 2-2.
The Devils outshot the Thrashers 9-7 in the period.
Bobby Holik fired a rocket passed Damian Rhodes which
appeared to have simply hit the crossbar and deflect out. Upon
television reply review, the shot was a goal that was unfortunately
missed by all of the officials (including the off-ice video goal judges
who could have called down announcing the goal), and would not count.
Shortly after the "non-goal", Bobby Holik put the puck
passed Rhodes for a goal that would count, at 18:16. Andreas
Salomonsson got the only assist on the goal.
The Devils won the game 3-2, but were outshot 25-21 in
the game.
Mike Commodore and Randy McKay were healthy scratches for
the Devils.
