The New Jersey Devils defeated the Washington Capitals 3-2 in
overtime at the Prudential Center on Friday, January 25, 2013.
Stephen Gionta got the Devils on the board with a goal that beat
Michal Neuvirth at 13:55 of the first period. Jacob Josefson and Mark
Fayne assisted on Gionta's first goal of the season.
A power-play goal from Patrik Elias at the 19 minute mark of the
second period made it 2-0 New Jersey. Elias' first goal of the season
was assisted by David Clarkson and Marek Zidlicky.
Mike Ribeiro broke Martin Brodeur's bid for a second straight
shutout with a power-play goal at 12:45 of the third period. Mike Greene
tied thegame with a goal at 17:04.
Regulation time ended with the teams tied, 2-2. Ilya
Kovalchuk scored at 4:39 of overtime to win the game for the Devils.
Marek Zidlicky and Patrik Elias assisted on Kovalchuk's second goal of the
