Game 1: Devils Beat Islanders 2-1

    The New Jersey Devils opened the lockout-shortened 2012-2013 NHL season with a 2-1 victory over the Islanders in New York on Saturday, January 19, 2013.

    Travis Zajac scored the Devils first goal of the season, beating Evgeni Nabokov at 14:01 of the second period to give New Jersey a 1-0 lead.   Ilya Kovalchuk and Henrik Tallinder assisted on the goal.

    The Islanders got on the board with a power-play goal from Travis Hamonic that got by Martin Brodeur at 7:12 of the third period.

    David Clarkson scored just 1:05 later to give the Devils a 2-1 lead.   Patrik Elias and Mattias Tedenby assisted on Clarkson's first of the season.
