The New Jersey Devils advanced to the Stanley Cup Finals by
defeating the New York Rangers 3-2 in overtime in game 6 of their Eastern
Conference Finals matchup on Monday, May 21, 2012.
The Eastern Conference Champion New Jersey Devils will face the
Los Angeles Kings at the Prudential Center at 8:00PM on Wednesday, May 30,
Ryan Carter got the Devils on the board first when he beat Henrik
Lundqvist at 10:05 of the first period. Stephen Gionta and Steve Bernier
assisted on Carter's fourth goal of the playoffs.
Ilya Kovalchuk scored a power-play goal at 13:56 to make it a 2-0
Devils lead. Kovalchuk's seventh goal of the post-season was assisted by
Dainius Zubrus and David Clarkson.
Ruslan Fedotenko and Ryan Callahan scored for the Rangers at 9:47
and 13:41 of the second period to even the score, 2-2.
Neither team scored in the third period, forcing sudden-death
overtime. Adam Henrique ended the Rangers season with a goal just 1:03
into the first overtime period. Ilya Kovalchuk and Alexei Ponikarovsky
assisted on Henrique's third of the playoffs.
